چکیده

Umbilical hernias in goats are uncommon and can vary in their etiology and management. Hernioplasty can be done by closing the abdominal wall with a horizontal mattress pattern using absorbable sutures. However, larger defects (hernial ring size >3 cm) generally require the use of prosthetic materials that allow for a tension-free repair. In this study, 10 young female goats with umbilical hernias and hernial ring sizes ranging from 7-10 cm in width were treated using a double-layer polypropylene mesh. An ultrasonographic examination was performed to assess healing and connective tissue production.

Commercial polyester/cotton fabric (Damour): a novel prosthetic material for hernioplasty in ruminants

The aim of this work was to study the possibility of using a new commercial polyester/cotton fabric to repair large sized umbilical and abdominal hernias in calves and small ruminants. Twenty-four animals (16 calves, 3 buffalo calves, 4 sheep, 1 goat) with umbilical or abdominal hernia were included in this study. The diameter of hernial ring ranged from (12-25) cm. An underlay technique was us...

A comparative study between laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay mesh hernioplasty and open underlay mesh hernioplasty for ventral hernias

A hernia is defined as an area of weakness or complete disruption of the fibromuscular tissues of the body wall. Hernias are among the oldest known afflictions of humankind. The word “hernia” is derived from a Latin term meaning “a rupture”. The earliest reports of abdominal wall hernias date back to 1500 BC. During this early era, abdominal wall hernias were treated with trusses or bandage dre...
